How To Unlock Android Phone Without Gmail After Too Many Pattern Attempts

on Wednesday, July 3, 2013

So, you are locked out of your Android Smartphone because you tried too many incorrect patterns for unlocking the phone. Android prompted to enter your Gmail account username and password, but for some strange reason it wont accept it. The good news is you can still unlock the phone by doing a Hard factory data reset and will be able to use your android smartphone once again. The bad news is you will loose all the data saved on your device. The microSD data will remain intact, but still I would advice you to remove the microSD for doing the procedure.

Switch off your Android Phone, remove the battery for 3-5 seconds. Insert the battery again and do not switch on the device.

First things first. You need to get into the Android System recovery to Hard reset your android phone. There is a specific method to do this for different manufacturers

Samsung

Press and hold Volume Up + Home  key then also hold Power key. Keep holding all the three buttons till you feel the vibration or see samsung logo. As soon as you see the logo release the Power Key and keep holding the Volume Up key and Home Key. After few seconds you will land up into Android System Recovery.

HTC

Hold down the Volume Up first keep holding it then, now also hold power key. keep holding both the keys till the phone turns on into android system recovery mode. Now use Volume Up and Down Key to highlight recovery mode and then press Power Key to Select it

Micromax

Hold down the Volume up + Volume Down Key simultaneously, now also hold the Power key as well, keep holding all the three buttons until you land up in recovery mode. The Micromax phone will ask you to press the Volume Up key once to select the Recovery Option

Google Nexus

Press Volume down + Power Key till the phone vibrates. Now select the recovery option by moving Volume Up and Down Key and selecting the option by power button. You will an Android guy with an exclamation mark. Then Press and hold power key then Volume Up key to land up into Android recovery mode.

Now for any reason you do not see your phone in the above mentioned Manufacturers you can always Google How to Hard Factory Reset "Your Device and Model"

Once you are in recovery mode, the touch screen does not work. Use Volume Up and Down Key to highlight "Wipe Data/ Factory Reset"  and then press Power key to Start Factory Data reset. For Micromax devices you can navigate the options using Volume Up and Down Key and to select Factory Data Reset you have to press Menu Key present on extreme left bottom.

Once factory data reset is done, your android phone will be as new as it can get. You can start using your device again.

Android Smart Phones with Best Battery Life / Backup

If you are using an Android phone you must be knowing the the battery on Android phones can drain pretty fast. If you can make your battery life last for a complete day from morning till evening you certainly are one lucky Android phone user.

The battery life on android phone depends on many things not just the power of the battery. Most of the android phones currently have battery power ranging between 2000 to 3000 mAH. Almost 90 percent of them are below 2500 mAH. So before you start looking out for Android phones with better battery life or battery backup you should try to squeeze the most from your current battery.

Few short tips to increase battery life of your android phone

  • Disable Sync
  • Turn off WiFi and bluetooth when not using it
  • Adjust brightness level manually, always keep it to the minimum necessary to see clearly
  • Turn of Vibration, haptic feedback and keypad sounds.
  • Turn off GPS when not using it
  • Disable widgets from home screen or keep only the ones you need

Well, still not satisfied? Then you certainly need a Smartphone with best battery backup. Unfortunately there are not many Android smartphones whose battery could last for full 24 hours or maybe more than that, so maybe your search is limited.

Android phones processing power, Display quality, screen size have increased exponentially in past 3-4 years but the battery technology is the same. Lithium ion batteries are being used since past 20 years when the first mobile phone came into existence.

Further, the smartphone war to reduce the weight and dimensions of the device have not convinced manufactures to use bigger and bulky batteries.

So if your are looking for an Android Smart phone with the Best battery life you at present have only one choice.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Note 2 is the winner and beats almost every other smartphone by a long margin. The Smartphone has 3100 mAH battery, compare it to the latest Samsung Galaxy S4 which has 2600 mAH battery. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 can give you one and a half day of juice when used moderately. If you are a heavy user it can last upto full day. You will be amazed by the battery backup of the device if you apply all the tips mentioned in this post.

Moto Razor Max

was amazing in this regards. It has 3300 mAH battery and with just 4.3 inch real state screen and dual core processor to power, the battery on this device could last for 2-3 days! But the device is not good enough when compared to todays standard. If you only want best battery backup and happy with 4.3 inch screen (540 X 960) and dual core processor and almost two year old technology you can buy this device, if you can find one.

Samsung Galaxy S4

I think it is worth mentioning here as the device has 2600 mAH battery, if you leave out Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (coz of its size), S4 is the only device which have this kind of power in terms of batter. Though do not expect much from it. You would be extremely lucky if the battery lasts for one complete day on this device.

As I said choice is limited, maybe in future we could see some changes in the battery technology so that we can have better powerful battery and battery battery backup without sacrificing the weight and dimensions of the phone. Sony Xperia Z ultra is another device which would come with 3000 mAH hour battery. Also Samsung Galaxy Note 3 might get a slight increase in battery power as well!

AMOLED display produces better contrast, better blacks and beautiful color reproduction, so rich, sometimes it starts to look unnatural. While LCD produces normal looking contrast and color. LCD scores over AMOLED in terms of brightness. In broad day light you will have much easier time reading your LCD screen. AMOLED is also said to be better in terms of power requirement but that is negligible.

Ok enough about display technology, let us talk about Android Smartphones having Full HD or 1080p display. before we dive into the list, you must know that HTC butterfly and Oppo Find 5 are worth mentioning here because they were the first one to bring the Full HD Display technology to smartphones and their display is still best in the business. Samsung Galaxy S4

Best Cloud Storage Service

on Monday, June 24, 2013

Cloud storage is something which has revolutionized today's computing. Be it Smartphone, laptop, tablet or your personal computer you can now access all your files on any device irrespective of the form factor and operating system. Even if you are not so choosy about accessing all your files from any of your personal gadget or public computer, it is always wise to have your important data stored which is always safe.

If you are new to cloud storage, you must be wondering what is cloud service. Cloud storage is a method where you sync your personal computing device with an online storage server and upload your data on that particular server. The upload can be done manually or automatically and runs at the background without interfering with your normal functioning of your Android device or your personal computer. You have the ability to choose what to upload, when to upload and on which network to upload (Wi-Fi or Cellular Data).

At present there are dozens of cloud service providers, in this article I will explain which one is best for your and my personal choice.

I personally prefer Justcloud cloud service instead of services provided by Google (Google Drive), Microsoft (Sky Drive), DropBox and iCloud. The cloud services from these big shots are nice and I have personally used them all, but there are some limitations, either the free service is limited to very small storage space or the functions to handle my files are limited, while some does not work at all platforms, thereby defeating the very idea of cloud computing, where your files should be accessible to all devices at anytime.

Cloud storage service should have following features for the best usability and productivity:

To begin with the cloud storage service should be free upto a certain disk space, so that you can test it before committing to it. The cloud storage should be unlimited. Let us be realistic here, you not going change your cloud storage service provider once you have huge data on to the server just because you have reached the storage limit. For future proofing, the disk space should be unlimited.

Backups should be seamless and automated and you should have the ability to choose what to upload to your cloud storage, when to upload and what network to upload. You should not be limited to number of device you can use to access your files. Ideally it should be unlimited per user.

Cloud storage service should be multiplatform- Android, iOS, Blackberry, Windows, Mac, Linux and Kindle. You might change your platform or your device but you should be able to use the same cloud storage service.

Cloud storage service provider should give you the ability to schedule your backups. This feature is very handy where you can set your data to be backed up at the time when you are at home or while you are sleeping on a WiFi network automatically.

Should support all types of file, like music, videos, pdfs, emails and documents.

Cloud storage service should have function to share not only your files but also your complete folders as well
Drag and drop feature for easy uploading when you doing it manually.

Last but not the least, Data security. Cloud storage service provider should give minimum of 256 Bit encryption.

Justcloud is providing all these features and you can try out there service for free and see if it is suitable for your needs.

Other than JustCloud I would recommend Google Drive if you do not want unlimited storage but fast and secure storage of your data. If you are using Apple’s product iCloud is a good service but has many limitations.

How to Transfer Iphone Text (SMS) Messages to Android

on Tuesday, June 18, 2013

Transferring Iphone's SMS text messages to an Android phone is a daunting task, reason being Android and iOS handles SMS in a completely different way. All your data can be easily transferred but SMS text messages are little hard to transfer from an iPhone to Android Phone.

There are two methods to transfer iPhone SMS text messages to an Android device

  • Creating backup of your iPhone SMS text message, changing it to Android format, restoring it to Android phone. Requires, iTunes backup file, 2 applications one for changing the format and the other for resorting, little bit of patience and some head scratching.
  • You can use Backuptrans Software and do the work in a single click.

Method 1: Transferring iPhone SMS text Message to Android Phone manually.

Create backup of your iPhone using iTunes and locate the SMS Backup Data file. Once you have the file transfer it to your Android phone internal memory.

Now you need to convert the iPhone SMS database file into Android compatible format using iSMStoDroid application. Download the application from Google Play Store and install it. Once installed locate the file and start the conversion process. Depending on the size of the database file it can take less or more time. Once converted, the file will be stored in XML format in your Android device.

Now the third part is to load the converted SMS text message file into your Android SMS app. For this you will be needing, SMSBackup&Restore application which is used to backup and restore SMS for Android phones. The file converted by iSMStoDroid happens to be in the format which can be read by SMSBackup&Restore as a backed up SMS file which it can restore to your Android SMS application.

Once you have downloaded SMSbackup&Restore, run it and locate the SMS backup converted by iSMStoDroid app. The application will restore the backup and your iPhone SMS text message will be on Android device!

Method 2: Transferring iPhone SMS text Message to Android Phone with a Single Click.

If the above method seems to be little too complicated for your, there is always an easy option. You can purchase Backuptrans Software, install it on your computer, connect Android phone and iPhone and with a click of a button all your SMS will be transferred from iPhone to Android device.

Taking screen shots on Android phone can be a difficult task if you are still using android phone running on any version below Ice cream sandwich (4.0). In this post I will tell you how to capture your android phone screen or how to take screenshots of your android device.

Best Android Number Lookup

on Tuesday, June 11, 2013

True Caller is the best phone number look up app for Android. In this article I could have easily provided you list of 5 best apps for looking up phone numbers, but I decided to write about the best one. TrueCaller works differently and that is why it is so accurate in identifying unknown phone numbers and the best part is that it is absolutely free.

So what is TrueCaller?

TrueCaller is a multiplatform application that identifies:
  • Name of the person calling
  • Location (City and Country)
  • Photograph of the person

True caller notifies you with an unobtrusive display message whenever their is an incoming call or message from an unknown person or company.

How does it work?

The phone directly is build by the phone users! The app has permission to read your and others (people who have downloaded TrueCaller) phone contacts and build a common usable phone directory with their names! As of now True caller has 979,078,265 people in their directory. The directory is build from the phone contacts, Facebook, twitter and email contacts.

For example:
You have an incoming call from "A" who is unknown to you. While "A" might be unknown to you, but the person might be known to one of your friend, or anyone in this world who has TrueCaller installed and shared his/her contacts. So the app will look up its database and display the name and location of the person.

Privacy Issues:
Even when you agree to share phone contacts with the true caller application they make it sure that the data is only used for the purpose its taken for. It is part of their privacy policy. True caller never uploads the photograph of the person from your contacts. The photograph is displayed only of a person who chooses or uploads his/her photo in the true caller profile page.

Implication and Usage:
This app not only helps in identifying the person calling you, but you can tag a person/company as spam. Many people get spam calls or messages from advertising companies from similar number, If any true caller user has tagged it as spam it will automatically show up when you receive call from that number. So, you already know that a particular number is a spam or some marketing call that you do not need to receive. You have the ability to block calls from that number as well.

Limitation:
No application is perfect! Well, this limitation is based on the type of network you are using rather than the limitation of the application itself. If you are using a 2G network, the data automatically disconnects when you are on a voice call or whenever you get an incoming call notification. Since TrueCaller needs data to look up phone number as soon as incoming call comes, on a 2G network it wont be able to perform the search as data and voice does not work simultaneously.

Google Play Developer 8-Step Checkup

on Friday, June 7, 2013

Google Play gives you tons of options on publishing your apps and connecting with users. But as you get started with new features like beta testing and staged rollouts, it’s a good idea to do a checkup and make sure you’ve covered the basics.

1. Boost your developer account security

  • If you take just one step today to protect your Google Play apps, enable two-step authentication for your Google account, and encourage the rest of your team to do the same.
  • Next, many developers first set up their Google Play account with their personal gmail account, but it’s actually a good idea to transfer your apps to a separate account. All of your installations and reviews remain intact. If you haven’t done this already, transfer your apps to a new account today.
  • Don’t share passwords. Instead, add each individual who needs access and only grant the minimum level of access they need — and encourage them to enable two-step authentication.
  • Review the list of people with access regularly, and when people leave your project, make it a standard practice to remove their access. Learn more about developer account security.

2. Protect your keystore

In order to publish an update to an existing app, you’ll need to sign it with the same keystore every time. If you lose your keystore, you’ll lose your history and reviews, so you’ll need to start over with new apps with new package name and a new key, so you’ll want to make sure you protect it. First, choose a secure password, and don’t use the same password that you use for your Google account. Next, back up your keystore somewhere, but don’t upload it to Google Drive with an account you use to publish on Google Play.

3. Check your email addresses

As a developer, you are responsible for checking two important email addresses:

  • Account owner email address: Google uses the address used to register your Developer Console to contact you about your apps and account, so it is extremely important that someone is responsible for checking it regularly. If necessary, you can forward messages from this account via Gmail, or transfer your apps to another account.
  • Customer support email address: For each individual application, you can specify the best way for users to contact you for customer support. Ensure that a valid support email address for your product is specified. As a best practice, this should probably be a designated support account that is checked regularly and not the same email as the address used to login to the Developer Console.

4. Familiarize yourself with the policies

We recently launched some new guides and examples for Google Play’s Developer Program Policies and Developer Distribution Agreement. Note that once you publish an app as free, you can’t change it to a paid app later, though you can add in-app products.

5. Set up team processes

You may have many people involved with your Google Play apps. Make sure roles are clear in terms of whose job it is to publish updates, check statistics and optimization tips, read and reply to user reviews, and track revenue. Make sure all of these people have the right access to the Developer Console. Many developers who are part of larger organizations also report to their larger teams about their apps’ performance. Designate someone to make sure your app description, graphics (including localized and tablet screenshots), and pricing are up to date.

6. Configure your Developer Console UI languages

To change the language you want to see the Developer Console in, set your primary language. If you speak additional languages, configure those, too — user reviews in those languages won’t be translated automatically in the Developer Console. That was a popular request from developers.

7. Refresh your app’s marketing materials

  • Optimize your Google Play image assets. Include a well designed feature graphic in your Google Play listing. Localize your feature graphic, screenshots and description to improve conversions globally. Create a great looking icon with the Launcher Icon Generator.
  • Provide screenshots specifically for phones and tablets showing both portrait and landscape layouts.
  • Improve your app’s marketing. Users are 47% more likely to trust & download content when you use the official Google Play Badge. Also, make sure you are linking to your apps properly. Use the Device Art Generator to create beautiful marketing material.

8. Stay on top of developer news

To make sure you’re aware of the latest Google Play updates for developers, make sure you check the Android Developers blog regularly, follow +Android Developers, and check the Developer Console regularly for announcements.

Well, the end result was unhappy customers and consumers. Even though Apple and Google think HTML 5 is the next technology and way to move forward for watching videos online and on websites, they do not realise still today there are millions of sites using Flash as there main technology for providing content.

But we have a work around. So today I will tell you how to install Flash player on your Android phone.

YouTube Search Experiments

on Wednesday, May 22, 2013

YouTube experiments with some new search features. When you click a video from the list of YouTube search results, there's a red progress bar displayed at the top of the page until the video page loads. YouTube loads pages using AJAX and uses HTML5 history.pushState to change the browser URL without reloading the page. Here's the new feature in action:

The search box still includes your query when you watch the video. Another experimental feature shows a list of search suggestions when you watch a video and click the search box. The list of suggestions is probably generated based on the video's title.

Click the homepage search box and YouTube shows a list of recent searches. Here's how you can try the new features (the red progress bar seems to be Chrome-only). If you use Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari or Internet Explorer 8+:
  1. open youtube.com in a new tab

  2. load your browser's developer console:

    • Chrome - press Ctrl+Shift+J for Windows/Linux/ChromeOS or Command-Option-J for Mac

    • Firefox - press Ctrl+Shift+K for Windows/Linux or Command-Option-K for Mac

    • Opera - press Ctrl+Shift+I for Windows/Linux or Command-Option-I for Mac, then click "Console"

    • Safari - check this article

    • Internet Explorer - press F12 and select the "Console" tab.

  3. paste the following code which changes a YouTube cookie:
  4. document.cookie="VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=jyDR-4Ljl_I; path=/; domain=.youtube.com";window.location.reload();
  5. press Enter and close the console.

  6. To go back to the standard UI, follow the same steps, but use the following code:
    document.cookie="VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=; path=/; domain=.youtube.com";window.location.reload();
