How to Reset Android Phone To Factory Original Settings

Let us say that you have been using your Android phone for too long and you noticed that over the period of time your phone as slowed down, hangs too much or some application force closes every now and then. Instead of buying a new android phone, you can just reset your android device back to original settings and speed up your phone just like when it was brand new.

In this post I will tell you how to reset your android phone or tablet back to original or factory settings. Before you decide to reset your phone make sure that you have backed up all your data. Data stored in your memory card will not be erased if you choose to. Resetting your android device will lose all your messages, applications, passwords and data stored in your phone (not in your memory card). 

Back up your contacts by syncing in with your Gmail account.

Once you are done with resetting, you have to log in with your Gmail account. If you have already synced your phone with your Gmail account, your applications and contacts will be restored automatically. So make sure that you do have a WiFi access or else you will end up downloading your applications through your mobile network service provider which could result in data charges depending upon the data plan you have back up your contacts by syncing in with your Gmail account.

Step by Step Guide on How to Reset Android Phone.

  1. Go to "Settings"
  2. Depending on your device "Factory Data Reset" option might be located in either "Privacy”, "SD & phone storage" or "Back up & Reset" under settings option.
  3. Now choose "Factory Data Reset" : There will be an option to Format SD Card, make sure to uncheck it,  if you do not want to wipe data from your SD Card.
  4. Phone will reboot and will reset itself to Factory Settings.

Different Android based phones might have slightly different user interface, but the method is same for all of them.
