on Tuesday, May 28, 2013

Samsung Galaxy S4 for Verizon has been launched today and so is root access! This will describe step by step method to root your Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 and void your warranty.

The root method discussed in this post is a very simple one and does not require full wipe, or installing new rooted firmware. Although this method does involve flashing files using ODIN. The main advantage of this method is that you do not need to wipe your data.

The root method basically involves 3 steps:
  1. Installing pre release Kernel: Removes the root block.
  2. Rooting the device: Using MotoChopper Root Exploit Tool.
  3. Installing back the Stock kernel.
So without any further delay let us Root Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4! Download Following Files to your Computer (Link opens in a new window)

Step -1 Installing the VRUAMD2 Pre-release Kernel

  • Reboot the phone in download mode: Switch off the device and then simultaneously press the Down Volume Key +Home Button +Power key . You will see a warning asking to press volume down key to cancel or volume up key to continue. Press the volume UP key and you will be in download mode.
  • Start ODIN and make sure ONLY “Auto-reboot”and “Reset Time” is checked in options menu. Click on the PDA button and locate the VRUAMD2 Pre-release kernel that you downloaded.
  • Now connect Galaxy S4 to your computer via USB, once connected the ID:COM section on ODIN will turn blue.
  • Now press “Start” to flash. The device will reboot once the flashing is finished.
Before starting Step 2 make sure under Security setting you have “Unknown Sources” checked, under Developer options settings “USB debugging “ is checked and in Developer options settings “Verify apps via USB” unchecked.

Step-2 Rooting the device using MotoChopper Root Exploit Tool.

  • Connect your Samsung galaxy S4 via USB cable and start Run.bat file from the location where you have extracted Motochopper tool.
  • The device will reboot once it has successfully rooted your phone. Now go to Google Play Store and see if there is any Update for the current version of SuperSU.
  • Extremely Important: Open SuperSU and let the binary update itself to the latest or you will lose Root in next Step.

Step 3- Flashing VRUAMDK Stock Kernel

  • Put the phone in download mode as described in step-1
  • Start ODIN and flash VRUAMDK Stock Kernel.
  • Phone will reboot once the kernel is flashed successfully!
